Deeside
and Roanheads Boiler replacement contract
2003/2004
The above contract
involved the replacement of 58 boilers in properties in Garthdee,
Aberdeen
and Roanheads, Peterhead and the upgrading to
thermostatic radiator valves 184 properties in the same areas.
Following
investigation of various boiler types and some negotiation with
manufacturers and energy suppliers, Ideal Isar 30 HE boilers were chosen.
This allowed the Co-operative to obtain substantial discounts and grant
funding for the boilers. The Co-operative purchased the boilers and
supplied them to the contractor.
Mathieson
Partnership were chosen to provide the Quantity Surveying services for the
contract.
WRB Gas of Dundee
won the competitive tender to carry out the works at £76,500. The works
started in October 2003.
In general the
contract progressed well with the installation of the replacement boilers
being carried our within a single day. Issued relating to the provision of
condensate pipes were resolved as the contract progressed. The
installation of the TRVs proved more problematic due to difficulties in
getting entry to all of the properties involves. Several properties were
removed from the contract during its progression and other savings were
made connected to the boiler flues. However, other properties were added
to the contract, with a result that the expected contract outcome will be
~£700 overspend. This is still below the budget provision of £91,000
made for the works. Grant funding has still to be claimed, which will add
to the budget underspend.
Tenant satisfaction
was very high, as noted below. This is mainly due to efforts of the WRB
Gas engineer. I would recommend the use of WRB Gas in future similar
works.
The Quantity
Surveying services were also good timely and accurate. I would recommend
the use of Mathieson Partnership for future works.
