Co-operative Adopts LGBT Standards
Last
year we told you that the Co-operative had taken part in a pilot project
to look at issues affecting LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender)
people. Like everyone, LGBT people want to be safe in their homes and
communities and not be subject to intimidation or harassment.
At
Tenants First we are committed through our Equal Opportunities Strategy to
make sure that all our tenant members and other customers receive an
equally high service from us. We are pleased to be able to let you know
that the Co-operative has now formally adopted the LGBT Housing Standards
which have been produced from the pilot project.
Through
the standards we are making a commitment to:
 |
Adopting
a zero-tolerance approach to homophobia and transphobia;
|
 |
Making
sure that our employment practices are LGBT inclusive;
|
 |
Making
sure our services can be accessed by LGBT people;
|
 |
Making
sure that the way we deliver our services is LGBT inclusive;
|
 |
Engaging
with LGBT people, groups and organisations
|
We
will be looking at our services to make sure they meet the requirements of
the standards.
We
want to ensure that all our service users have the trust and confidence in
us to deal sensitively and appropriately with any issues or problems they
may have related to sexuality and gender.

CHARITY
FUNDRAISING
For
the past 3 years the
Aberdeen
and Peterhead offices have held fundraising events in aid of GKPA
(Grampian Kidney Patient Association). Last
year we raised £1390 by having Dress Down Days, Quiz Night, Bring n’
Buy Sales, sale of Plants, Raffles, Bowling Night and a Sponsored Walk.
This
year the money raised is to be split between GKPA and CLAPA (Cleft Lip and
Palate Association) – both these charities are based in
Aberdeen
which ensures that the money raised will be spent locally.
The staff have a bit of fun joining in with these activities
ensuring that any money raised all goes to good causes.

Every
year at this time we tell you about the Co-operative’s AGMs and how
important it is for all our members to attend.
Are you aware that last year 4 of the 6 AGMs couldn’t go ahead on
the first date because not enough people turned up?
This meant we had to hold them again a week later and that costs
all of us money! The Co-operative
has a responsibility to be a good landlord and provide members with high
quality services. But we each
have a responsibility to make sure that happens because we ourselves are
the Co-operative!
We
really do want to encourage as many people as possible to take part in the
management and decision making of the Co-operative.
The best way to do this is to stand for election to Tenant
Management Boards and the Committee of Management.
We’re always looking for new people to get involved in this very
important job. But even if you feel
this isn’t for you, please make a real effort to attend your local AGM
this year. We will be consulting on
the new Customer Care Standards which are being developed to ensure the
Co-operative is providing and delivering services of the highest possible
standard so this is the perfect opportunity for you to have your say on
these.
Two
hours once a year to come along to your local AGM?
We don’t think that’s too much to ask of you.
We look forward to seeing you there!
