Tenants First Housing Co-operative has been active in approaching energy providers with a view to qualifying for grant aid to improve the energy efficiency of our properties.

In 2002 Scottish Gas, the Eaga Partnership and Tenants First decided to work together to enhance Warm Deal funding available in Scotland. Eaga carried out surveys in the Garthdee and Arbroath areas which included:

carrying out a benefits health check and encouraging tenants to contact other agencies that would provide additional assistance (i.e. Capability Scotland, RNIB, National Debt Line, Save the Children and various others)

The surveyors were able to access 88% of the properties in the area. From 37 benefit health checks, 19 were successful and on average increased their weekly income by £41.15. This represented an increase of £40,659 per annum to Co-operative tenants. Our properties benefited from: Loft Insulation (76 properties) Cavity Wall Insulation (5) Hot Water Tank Jackets (5) Light Bulbs (272) Thermostatic radiator valves (171)

News on this years AGMs

Fraserburgh, Sheddocksley, Ugievale and St Machar TMB area’s Annual General Meetings were all well attended.  However, in Bennachie and Deeside a disappointing turn out meant they had to be reconvened the following week as they did not have the required 10% of tenant members present.

Feedback from tenant members indicates that tenants enjoyed the AGM’s and thought that the speakers delivered clear, comprehensive and interesting presentations.

There was an emphasis on community development and more tenant members were encouraged to participate in the co-operative in various different ways. Sheddocksley, Deeside, Fraserburgh and Ugievale TMB’s all successfully attracted new members this year.  It is hoped that the good work the TMB’s have started in community development will continue and be further expanded over the next year.

The winners of the raffle were from:
