Street Names suggestions for Donside
Tenants First Housing Co-operative are inviting co-operative members and members of the community to suggest street names themes for the new Donside Urban Village development in Aberdeen. There are approximately 10 new streets or courtyards at Donside. The suggestions will be collated and a selection will be offered to the City Council for presenting to local council members, who will make the final decision.

Themes may refer to the history and heritage of the site, the new vision for Donside, which includes biodiversity and the natural environment, or something completely different.
The site at Gordon Mills started as a small corn-mill and developed into textile and paper mills. By the beginning of the 20th century the area was dominated by the Don Paper Works.
Donside is nestled in the crook of the River Don in a peaceful woodland setting. Attractive landscaping with 1,000 new trees will be planted around the new development. The environment around Donside supports bats, otters, and other wildlife. The area is rich in species of trees, shrubs and herbs.
The vision for Donside is:
- new housing of the highest quality to create the most affordable, comfortable and adaptable living environment
- developing neighbourhoods including the ‘Homezone’ concept, where pedestrians come first, to create safe, attractive and interactive streets
- supporting biodiversity in the area so the ecosystem and habitats for wildlife, fish and trees are supported
We are keen to hear your ideas. Let us know by Friday 27th May 2011 by using our Feedback form, selecting 'Donside Street Names' as the Category.
