Right to Buy

As a fully mutual Co-operative, Tenants First is exempt from the right to buy provision in the Act. However, if a tenant currently has the right to buy they will retain this option for the property they currently live in. As now if a tenant then moves to another property within the Co-operative they will lose the right to buy option.

The Co-operative will be required to inform tenants about their obligations if they exercise (where applicable) their right to buy; for example maintenance of common areas and the consequences of failure to keep up repayments on a mortgage.

The discounted rates will remain the same and are as follows:

bullet

houses start at 32% after 2 years of qualifying tenancy rising by 1% for every subsequent year up to a maximum of 60% after 30 years.

bullet

flats starts at 44% after 2 years of qualifying tenancy rising by 2% for every subsequent year up to a maximum of 70% after 15 years.
